Joseph M Capitani

–

Monroe Township, New Jersey

Joseph M Capitani, affectionately known as "Papa Joe", passed away on July 9, 2026. Born in Brooklyn, New York on September 14, 1950, Joe spent most of his life in New York and New Jersey, finally settling in Monroe Township, New Jersey. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from City University of New York and spent most of his career in corporate finance.

A loyal and generous man, Joe's heart was always with his family which mattered most to him. His love for his family was mirrored in his love for his community where he served as the President of the Italian American Club. When Joe was not dedicating his time to his family and community, you could find him indulging in his array of hobbies which included gardening, bowling, golf, fishing, model building, and enthusiastically cheering on the Yankees and Giants.

Joe is survived by his brother, Perry Capitani, his children, Paul Maraio, Raquel Graham, Joseph Jr, and Stephen Capitani; his grandchildren, Natalie Graham, Tyler Graham, Julia Maraio, Sophia Capitani, Maximus Capitani; his son-in-law, Kevin Graham; and his daughter-in-law, Gina Maraio. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Capitani, by his parents, Atilvo and Rose Capitani; and his sister, Delores Chionchio.

A Funeral Mass in honor of Joe will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 11:00 am EDT at the Nativity of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church located at 185 Applegarth Road, Monroe Twp., New Jersey, 08831. As we remember Joseph, let us take comfort in the words of the Book of Matthew 5:4, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted."

We invite all who knew and loved Joe to leave memories, stories, and upload photos to his memorial page. Your shared experiences and tributes will help us all celebrate the generous, reliable, smart, and loyal man we were so blessed to know. In the spirit of Papa Joe, let us remember to hold our family close, cheer on our teams heartily, and approach life with a generous and loyal heart.
