Gregory Robert D'Angelo Sr. Obituary (1928

Gregory R. D'Angelo Sr. of Monroe Township, NJ died Thursday February 26th at his home. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Mr. D'Angelo lived in Oceanside, NY and East Rockaway, NY for 42 years before moving to the Greenbriar at Whittingham community in Monroe Township in 2000 and later the Monroe Village community in 2013. He joined the Navy during World War II and became a Pharmacist Mate, serving aboard the USS Forest Royal. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he attended St. John's University College of Pharmacy, Brooklyn, NY, where he met his bride to be, Angele Carabillo. He and Angele opened up Angel's Pharmacy in East Rockaway and then three other independent pharmacies on Long Island. They revolutionized the dispensing of prescription medications in an office setting as well as becoming the first in the pharmacy profession to offer patient counseling. Mr. D'Angelo later became director of governmental affairs for Forest Laboratories, Manhattan until his retirement in 2000. He studied for the Deaconate and became an ordained Deacon for the Diocese of Rockville Center, NY serving at St. Raymond's Church in the Diocese. Upon moving to Monroe Township, Mr. D'Angelo served at Nativity of Our Lord RC Church, Monroe Township and Holy Trinity RC Church, Helmetta in the Diocese of Metuchen. Mr. D'Angelo was the founding Grand Knight of Monsignor Walsh Council of the Knights of Columbus in East Rockaway and was a member of the 4th Degree. His was predeceased by his wife Angele in 2013 and his son Ernest in 2007. Surviving are his three sons, John of Plainview, NY, Gregory Jr. of Sag Harbor, NY and Gerard of Yardley, PA and his five grandchildren Andrew, Catherine, Sarah, Sofie and Shane. Services will begin 9:30 a.m. Monday March 2nd at the Lester Memorial Home 16 W. Church St., Jamesburg, NJ followed by a 10 a.m. funeral liturgy at St. James RC Church, Jamesburg. Entombment will be in Holy Cross Burial Park, East Brunswick, NJ. Visiting hours for family and friends will be Sunday 2-5 p.m. and Monday 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
